The Stoxkarts Test Day at Skegness Raceway delivered exactly what it should — track time, learning curves, and a proper reminder of what this formula is all about.
One of the standout moments from the day came as Richard Kaleta stepped away from the microphone and into the driver’s seat for the very first time.
After years of talking about racing, Richard finally experienced it first-hand… and quickly found out that driving a Stoxkart is a very different challenge altogether.
Thanks to the Holden family — Jason, Claire and Freddie — Richard was given the opportunity to take out the Gold Roof Stoxkart alongside his Son and Commentator Thomas Kaleta. Joining them on track were Mike Lomax from the V8's and Callum Johnson from the Senior Stoxkarts, making it a proper session with a bit of fun mixed in.
As expected, it didn’t take long to realise just how tough these Stoxkarts are to drive. Tight racing lines, constant pressure, and the reality of other karts wanting the same bit of track space. It’s easy to talk about — a lot harder to do.
Richard summed it up best — it gave him a whole new level of respect for the drivers in this formula.
While Richard was finding his feet, Thomas Kaleta took to it straight away. A strong first outing and already showing signs of being right at home behind the wheel. Plans are now in place for his first full meeting.
To round off the day, Richard was presented with a Top Effort Trophy by Ian “The Boss” Higgins — a well-earned moment after stepping out of his comfort zone and giving it a proper go.
A big thank you goes to:
Freddie Holden for the use of the kart
Callum Johnson and Mike Lomax for joining in
And most importantly, to everyone involved in making it a great day both on and off the track.
This is exactly what Stoxkarts is about — getting involved, giving it a go, and being part of something that’s built on proper racing and good people.
If you’ve ever thought about it… now’s the time.
Budget racing at its best.
