Whether you're new to the sport or ready to get on track, here's everything you need to know about Stoxkarts:
AGE & LICENSING
Q. How old do you need to be to race?
A. We run two age categories:
- 
Juniors: Ages 11–16 
- 
Seniors: Ages 16–70 (no new licences issued after age 60 unless you already hold a valid race licence) 
Q. Do I need a licence to race?
A. Yes. You’ll need a valid Stoxkarts licence to compete. Hire drivers can complete a Day Licence as part of their booking.
Q. Is there a rulebook?
A. Yes. All drivers must read and agree to the Stoxkarts Rulebook, which is available on our Downloads page. We also have policies covering child protection, anti-bullying, internet safety, and more.
THE KARTS
Q. Are Junior and Senior Karts different?
A. No. The karts are identical. Juniors may use pedal extensions or alternative seats. Seniors have a higher minimum weight limit.
Q. Can I build my own kart?
A. No. The chassis and cage must be purchased from Stoxkarts Ltd. You may assemble the kart yourself after that.
Q. Are all karts the same?
A. Yes. All Stoxkarts have the same geometry and measurements to keep racing fair.
Q. Can I adjust the setup?
A. You can adjust: Tyre pressures - Front tracking (toe in/out) - Stagger
Q. Do the karts have gears?
A. No. They use an automatic centrifugal clutch – just press and go!
MAINTENANCE & SPARES
Q. Do I need lots of spares?
A. No. We recommend carrying a spare front and rear wheel. Additional spares can be bought from the Stoxkarts transporter at meetings.
Q. Can I buy parts elsewhere?
A. Yes, for general items. However, specific control parts must be purchased from Stoxkarts Ltd. (listed in the rulebook).
Q. How much maintenance is required?
A. Basic checks and greasing once a week are usually enough. Repairs are simple and can be done in a shed, garage, or even on a trailer.
Q. Do I need to be a mechanic or have a workshop?
A. No. The karts are simple to maintain. Most drivers manage their own upkeep with basic tools.
ENGINES & TECH
Q. What can I do to my engine?
A. You may: Change the oil - Set tappets - Clean carburettor - Change spark plug and air filter - Replace valve springs with standard Honda or Stoxkarts-approved ones
Q. Can I repair my engine?
A. Yes. But it must be dyno tested and sealed before racing again. Stoxkarts has an approved engine builder if needed.
Q. Can I use fuel additives or tyre softeners?
A. No. These are strictly prohibited. Duro readings are taken randomly.
RACING FORMAT
Q. Do Juniors and Seniors race together?
A. No. They race at the same meetings but in separate races.
Q. How many races do I get?
A. We aim for a minimum of 3 races per meeting, with more at some tracks (subject to conditions).
Q. Are drivers graded?
A. Yes. Both Juniors and Seniors are graded throughout the season based on points.
Q. Is there prize money?
A. Prize money is not guaranteed but may be offered at selected championship meetings. Prizes may include tyres, wheels, or other items.
Q. Do I need to race every meeting?
A. No. You're welcome to race as often or as little as you like. You must book in at least 7 days before your chosen meeting.
COSTS & ENTRY
Q. Do I have to pay to race?
A. Yes. All drivers pay race fees. Junior entries include 1 free adult admission.
Q. Do I get free pit or entry passes?
A. Junior drivers get 1 adult pass. Seniors receive driver-only admission.
Q. How long do tyres last?
A. Many last for seasons. Some drivers have used the same rears for over 10 years!
Q. Do I need a separate kart for tarmac and shale?
A. No. All karts must be used on both surfaces during the season. All must run the designated shale tyre.
SAFETY
Q. Are Stoxkarts safe?
A. Yes. Stoxkarts are built to strict ORCi safety standards. All karts use: Racing seats & harnesses - Head restraints - Neck braces - Fireproof overalls, balaclava & gloves - Latest-spec helmets - Raceceiver radio system for Race Director communication
Q. Is there much damage?
A. As a contact formula, damage can occur – but karts are robust. Most repairs are simple and low-cost. Many drivers spend under £500 per season on damage.

Q. Can I try before I buy?
A. Absolutely – and we encourage it! Hire karts are available at every meeting and include - Full racing kit - Race entry fee - Raceceiver & earpiece - Damage cover
NEW DRIVERS
Q. Do I need racing experience?
A. No. Many of our drivers had never raced before joining Stoxkarts. Junior drivers must complete a test session before their first meeting.
